UNDP's work in Pakistan is now very much focused on supporting national efforts towards achieving the MDGs UNDP and the rest of the UN Country Team are currently assisting the Government in reviewing the eight Goals, adapting the targets and indicators to the country, and preparing the first MDG Report, which will appear later this year, to benchmark progress, raise awareness, and help focus national debate on specific development priorities. Civil society’s participation in the MDG reporting process will be facilitated in different ways. UNDP Maldives
In the Maldives, for 25 years, UNDP has directed its focus to the lives of citizens in the more remote atolls and islands. The geographical isolation and lack of opportunities there have inspired numerous initiatives, notably the Atolls Development Programme, active in 4 atolls and soon to be expanded into more. This flagship programme aims at good local governance and the empowerment of island communities. At the central level, UNDP is continuously providing policy advisory services to the Government and other stakeholders. In its current programme UNDP is focusing on poverty monitoring and analysis, information and communication technology and economic development opportunities like pearl culture and hydroponics. An emerging priority also is the environment. With funding from the Global Environment Facility, UNDP has been assisting Maldives to face its steep environmental challenges, develop appropriate policies and, as a focus country for issues of global warming, to effectively participate in the global environmental discussion. The largest environment programmes for Maldives are about to begin in areas of coral reefs conservation and the application of renewable energy. |

The Country Programme outline (2003-2007) covers four thematic areas: 1.The promotion of human development and gender equality; 2.Capacity building for decentralization; 3.Poverty eradication and sustainable livelihoods; and 4.Vulnerability reduction and environmental sustainability. |
