AIDS Alliance Nepal (AAN)
AAN (AIDS ALLIANCE NEPAL) is a national community based non-profit organization representing people living with HIV/AIDS through a network of individuals and groups who provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). AAN was formed in March 2005 in response to an emerging need for PLWHA (especially women and children living with HIV) to be given a voice.

Volunteer Job Description and Volunteer Profile

Who is AAN

AAN is a non profitable organization formed by people living with HIV and AIDS in March 2005. AAN was the first care and support group formed in Nepal, predominately managed by parents of positive people living with HIV in Nepal.

Aims of AAN

AAN was established to create awareness of HIV/AIDS issues in Nepal, to provide care and support for families with HIV and their children, to fight against discrimination, to help families to lead a respectful and productive life and give hope and confidence to infected patients.

Background

AAN currently has the need to recruit a short-term volunteer to assist the organization with fundraising activities, to help AAN achieve a stronger financial footing.

Job Description

  • To become familiar with AAN and it’s past and planned care and support services, and the issues facing family with HIV/AIDS in Nepal.
  • To plan and implement a short-term fundraising and awareness campaign to benefit AAN and people living with HIV/AIDS. Activities could include, for example, donation collections, a film event, a cultural show or a live music fundraising and awareness raising event(s), linking in with the International HIV/AIDS Awareness Day on 1st December.
  • To plan event logistics with venues, plan and invite the participants, and promote the event(s) through the media.
  • To explore other ways to collect donations from Nepal or overseas.
  • Consult and work in conjunction with the staff and board members at AAN and to collaborate with HIV/AIDS NGO’s.

Volunteer Profile

  • Committed, dedicated and enthusiastic towards helping make a difference to family living with HIV/AIDS.
  • Some experience in event organization or fundraising activities.
  • Good levels of organizational skills
  • Confidence and good communication skills
  • Is able to work using their own initiative without close supervision.

Length

  • AAN is looking for a volunteer to start as soon as possible, for approximately 3 months or a year. Recently AAN cannot provide any money for volunteer expenses. AAN is looking for a Nepali or international volunteer.
